34 Bible Verses About God Providing For Our Needs

One of the names that God reveals Himself as is Jehovah Jireh (yhwh yirʾeh).

In Hebrew, this translates to: The Lord Will Provide. In the early Greek translations, it means: The Lord hath seen. And an early Latin version says: The Lord sees.

You can put these together and say: The Lord sees, and in seeing He provides. This lines up with the teachings of Jesus. He taught that God sees our needs and will provide us with everything we need (Matt. 6:8;32-33).

That can lead us to a lot of questions.

We can look around and see people all over the world who don’t have what they need. People don’t have food or clean water. People don’t have a place to live. People don’t have access to life-saving medicine.

Why isn’t God providing what they need?

There are a lot of reasons for that– I’m not going to pretend that I have all the answers. I do know that there’s an enemy, the devil, whose only mission is to steal, kill, and destroy our life (John 10:10). We need to actively resist the devil with the Word of God.

Another reason is that we don’t ask God. Even though He knows what we need, Jesus still taught us to pray and ask God for things. And James says that we don’t have because we don’t ask, or ask with the wrong intentions.

The last thing I’ll mention on this topic is that many people blame God when there’s a lack of provision, but don’t acknowledge God when they have more than enough.

Each year, 119 billion pounds of food is wasted in the United States (source). Could it be that God is providing, but we are failing as stewards of His provision?

One of the best things we can do is remind ourselves continually of God’s biblical truth. Reading these Bible verses about God’s provision will increase your faith and trust in Him as your Provider.
