Here is Day 1 from a 7 Day Devotional that I (finally) finished writing yesterday. The full devotional is Available Here on Kindle. This is the first devotional I’ve written, so I appreciate any feedback, both good and bad, from you.
“In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. The earth was without form, and void; and darkness was on the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters.” Genesis 1:1-2 NKJV
The first mention of everything in the Bible is the most important mention. The first mention of something provides the foundational understanding of it. The first time the Bible mentions the Holy Spirit is in just the second verse of Genesis. We are introduced to God’s Spirit during the creation of the Universe: He is hovering over the dark, unformed Earth.
The Spirit of God can also be translated as the breath, or wind of God. We see that the breath of God carries the Word of God. The Father is speaking the Word that is being carried by His Breath. The Trinity is revealed in all of creation from this point on. The Trinity of God created many trinities revealed in His creation. There is time, space, and matter; past, present, and future; time, space, and matter; length, width, and height.
Since we’re focusing on the Holy Spirit’s characteristics and role, look at what He is doing in the beginning: The Spirit of God is hovering. He is not sitting still or stagnant. The Spirit of God is still hovering, He is still moving, He is still carrying the Word of God.
How do we apply this to our life? We know the Holy Spirit is moving. We need to pay attention to where He is moving, when He is moving, and how He is moving. As Christians we are led by the Spirit of God. We are not pushed or dragged by Him. It would become difficult for us to be led by the Spirit if we are always unaware or blind of His moving.
God doesn’t intend to hide from us where, when, or how He is moving. God’s ultimate desire is for a true, real, powerful, loving relationship with us. God’s relationship with every person is unique, it looks different in each individual life. How the Holy Spirit is moving in your life is very personal. The best way to see, know, and understand the Holy Spirit’s moving is to ask. One of the common prayers that I pray is for God to open my eyes and my ears to see and hear what He is doing in and around my life.
